Fall Is Here
I am currently having all the September feels. Labor day has passed. The oppressive humidity and heat seem to be behind us here in Michigan. Blue skies, cooler temperatures, farm stands, dahlias, and cider mills have ushered us into the transition between late summer and autumn.
I love this time of year. That back-to-school, fresh start feeling has stayed with me even though it has been many, many years since I have stepped into a classroom.
On the home front, I am going to be spending this month cleaning, editing, and organizing. As I go through each drawer, closet, and shelf I will evaluate whether the items meet the criteria to take up space in my home.
There is an elegance to simplicity. I am certainly not a minimalist but I don’t see the value of holding on to things that do not suit me any longer.
Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful--William Morris
This applies to situations, people, and thoughts that do not serve me. I believe that we are the CEO of our own lives. We are in control of the stories we tell ourselves. We get to choose how we are going to respond to all the things that come up in our lives.
We may need to re-evaluate current situations, set boundaries, and examine our thoughts. I have already purchased my 2022 agenda. I also purchased a new journal and pen. During this last quarter of the year, I am reflecting on what has gone well and what has not. I am deciding what goals that I want to accomplish this fall, what habits I want to put in place, and what habits I need to drop.
Journaling is a regular habit. I decided that I was going to do it every day in 2021. Before that, I would journal on and off. Since I have been regularly journaling I have found much more clarity in my life. There is something almost magical about the process.
Getting thoughts out of my head and onto paper helps me to focus and get clarity on my decisions. I am loving this process.
Do you journal?
